Reviewing Buildings Management Measures to Curtail Airborne Infections
The high mortality and morbidity rates of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic led to an
explosion of research on studying the dynamics of the survival and transmission of its causative agent, as well as other
airborne pathogens. This has resulted in a plethora of information on the role of building design in the spread of
microorganisms associated with respiratory diseases. Consequently, it appears that in most settings, the construction
and maintenance of residential and commercial buildings did not prioritize the risk posed by airborne pathogens, and
thus were ill-prepared for the likely occurrence of a respiratory disease outbreak.
Biophilia, Design Principles, Healthcare facilities, Institutional buildings
Maintenance is a key requirement for buildings to operate at their maximum efficiency throughout their
intended lifespan. This study examined the consequences of building maintenance management on the longevity of the
structure through the medium of a literature review. The study is purely a review of documented evidence hence data
for the study were obtained from journal articles, manuals, reports, databases, and other published works.
The extent of application of biophilic design principles in Institutional Buildings: A Case Study of Bayero University Clinics
The concept of Biophilia implies that humans hold a biological need for interaction with nature on
physical, mental, and social levels, and that this connection affects our personal well-being, productivity, and
societal relationships.
Valuing Heritage: A Study in Valuation of Colonial Heritage Buildings in Port Harcourt, Nigeria
his article examines the rather complex issue of valuing heritage, particularly as it concerns
buildings with age, historical or cultural relevance, which are all qualities difficult to measure in financial
terms. It also reviews some valuation techniques used in the recent field of heritage economics from
relevant literature and how these techniques have been used in Valuing heritage.
Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) for residential buildings: Literature Review
Users’ perception of Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) is critical for sustainable residential
development. IEQ factors that affect evaluation of quality life for occupants in residential buildings are
thermal comfort, air quality, light quality and indoor acoustics. This study critically reviewed literature
on IEQ for residential buildings with the view to establish an improved IEQ concept on sustainable
development.
The influences of development control on preservation of vegetated infrastructure to promote well-being for urban environments in Nigeria
As urbanisation accelerates across the country, there is a growing need for sustainable and
well-planned urban environments that prioritize order in the physical setting in a way that facilitates the
health and well-being of the population.
Occupants’ thermal comfort perception on different HVAC system setpoints
Research on smart energy saving is becoming famous globally in different sectors. The current
research is anticipated to lower energy demand and consumption in the building industry, which has
already reached 49% globally and is projected to rise by 2% yearly, incurring significant monthly costs.
The impact of ethical sourcing of raw materials on the future of Interior Design and Decorations
This research explores the transformative shift towards ethical sourcing in interior design,
responding to global concerns about environmental sustainability and ethical practices. Grounded in a
comprehensive theoretical framework, the study delves into historical perspectives, ethical considerations
in raw material sourcing, and the theoretical underpinnings of sustainable development, consumer
behavior, and innovation diffusion.
Thermal Performance Analysis of Residential Buildings in Nigeria: A Case Study of Sokoto State
Buildings' thermal functionality and effectiveness depend on the specifics of their designs,
climate-responsive design criteria, how they are used on-site, and the specifics of their microclimate type
and quality of their fabrics. In this research, four buildings with various system designs were the subject of
an examination in the field.
